Today is Monday, May 12, and it was a pretty productive weekend.
I was cooked by the end of Saturday. I’d spent the entire day working in the basement. At the end of the day, I has ZERO projects complete, but got SEVERAL projects partially completed.
The day started with my desire to get some work done in the basement. I came down and started shuffling stuff around but quickly realized that I needed to move a bunch of the bulky junk up and out to the garage.
I couldn’t start taking stuff to the garage until I started picking up in there so I refocused my efforts to working in the garage. I headed up and started breaking down the millions of boxes that were cluttering the bulk of the space. As I ran through the boxes, I realized that many of them were full of trash, like plastic, Styrofoam, and other stuff that shouldn’t go to Craig and Sue’s burn pile.
I went to line a 33 gallon trash can and realized we were perilously low on contractor bags so I went to Walmart to pick some up. While I was there, I picked up a Skullcandy Bluetooth speaker to enjoy while working in the garage.
I quickly realized I was turning into Hal from Malcolm in the Middle:
I returned from the store with my prizes in hand and started working back to the original goal.
I picked up all the unburnable trash I’d strewn about on the ground, then continued breaking down the boxes I had. Once I was done with them, I started a general straightening up to try to make room for the junk that was about to come up, culminating with a quick and dirty sweeping up of the leaves and other remaining debris.
After a quick nap break, I ran back down to the basement and started hauling stuff up. I made, in total, about a dozen trips up and down the stairs hauling stuff up and staging it on the back deck. Once the initial load done, I started moving it from the deck and into the garage.
While I would like to say that completed the task of junk hauling up from the basement, that would be disingenuous. I got four doors taken up, a bunch of MDF and plywood scraps from previous projects, and a bunch of musty, mildewy trim that’d been stewing in the “gym” for over a year. There is, however, a bunch more of that trim, more scraps, and a ton of junk in the rafters of that tiny room to be dealt with.
So, while I didn’t COMPLETE a single project from my monster to-do list, I still got a lot done.
And that’s something to be optimistic about.
