Thanksgiving in Walsenburg, CO

November 24-26

With pretty much no family to speak of in New Mexico, Brandy and I decided to head up to Christy and Josh’s for Thanksgiving.

We left at about 4:00 Wednesday after work, heading north on I-25. We made it up to Black Mesa Casino in Algodones before I had to pull over for a bio break.

As we got into the mountain passes just inside Colorado, we began encountering snow. The conditions were just right to make the lines on the highway disappear. We made it through the quick storm without issue as the snow passed and came again.

We cruised at a pretty good clip, pulling into the drive right around 8:30 or so, just as the snow began falling in Walsenburg.

We had Ash with us, so he got to meet Christy and Josh’s newest addition, Skye, a pale yellow lab full of energy, just like Ash.

As it was pretty late, we weren’t up very long. We sat and chatted with Christy and Josh for a bit then headed to bed.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving morning, we got up and Josh and I were sent out to try and get a couple of things for dinner and Breakfast the following morning. We headed to the Safeway then an impulse buy led us to picking up an eight pack of Fireball. The idea was to mix it with Angry Orchard type hard cider but they didn’t have any at the Safeway. We headed down the road to a liquor store that was open on Thanksgiving and Josh ran in and came out with Jim Beam apple flavored whiskey instead.

We headed back to the homestead and started making drinks as Christy and I worked on Thanksgiving dinner. We took turns playing DJ, requesting songs for their Amazon Echo to play and generally enjoying our time.

The day warmed drastically from the previous day quickly melting the snow that had accumulated since our drive in. Before I knew it, I had stripped down to a t-shirt and was comfortable in it.

The dogs continued their 72 hour playfest wearing themselves out pretty good.

As the day wound down and dinner time approached, we all had many drinks in us. We quickly ate and Brandy immediately retired for the evening, as did Josh, so Christy and I stayed up and chatted for a bit before I decided to join Brandy in bed.

Black Friday

The next morning, we got up and had a breakfast of the variety of pies that hadn’t been touched the previous night. I had a piece each of pecan, cherry (with a scoop of ice cream), and pumpkin (with whipped cream) pies, and a piece of cheesecake.

Hey, I’m an adult and can have what I want for breakfast, don’t judge.

Our Quick Departure

After taking our time packing up and finishing up our conversation, we made our hasty retreat home, arriving back in the late afternoon on Friday.

It was a quick trip that almost didn’t even warrant a post here. I only took a couple of pictures and we didn’t do much except eat, drink and be merry, but it still deserves a place in my little corner of the internet.

All of the pictures I took are contained in this post, so there’s no Photo Diary entry for this trip.

Well, except this picture:

A more energetic post will shortly be following here as we have done some fairly extensive traveling the last few months.

Stay tuned for a report from Gunnison, CO.

Until then, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate you!
