After looking for things to do in and around Canon City, I discovered that Garden of the Gods was in Colorado Springs which is only an hour away from Canon City. We added it our to-do list and I did my requisite deep dive to discover as much as I could about it.
February 21, 22, 23
The AirBnB where we stayed in Canon City was blocks from the Arkansas River. There is an 11 mile Riverwalk Trail alongside the river, some small sections of which we hiked during our stay in the city.

Another of the trails I saved in preparation for this trip was Redemption Trail. I read about this awesome slot canyon that I REALLY wanted to hike. I made it there, but alas, wasn’t able to hike it.

With a pair of little-to-no cost museums right across the street from each other, finding time between the end of my work day and the end of Brandy’s work day was a cinch!
February 23
In November 2021, we took a ride on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. We enjoyed it so much, we thought we’d try the Royal Gorge Route Railroad from Canon City.
There is nothing that stokes my excitement for traveling more than planning for traveling.
What a difference five years can make.
It’s the little things that make me happy, like making lists, and lists of my lists.

January 27
We celebrated the holidays at Hilary’s house two days before Christmas. That evening, her son, Ryne, unexpectedly asked what size shoe I wear. I said, “Fourteen, and depending on the shoe, I wear wide.”
He told me to try on his shoes (apparently he wears a 14 as well, but doesn’t need a wide).
He was wearing Twisted X moccasins. Brandy liked the way they looked on me so this weekend, we went to Long Creek Outfitters in Leon, IA, to get some for myself.

On Saturday, I fought the blistering cold and walked around downtown Ottumwa to snap some pictures of buildings that I think are cool.
