Taos, NM

August 29, 2020

Brandy and I woke up early on Saturday in anticipation of visiting the farmer’s markets in downtown Albuquerque and in Los Ranchos on Rio Grande Blvd. We got to the market downtown and it was PACKED. Way too many people for our taste, so we bypassed it and went straight to the market in Los Ranchos. There was hardly anyone at that one so we got out and browsed around a little. We wound up with some gigantic squashes, a watermelon and a cantaloupe. We started heading up Rio Grande with the expectation of heading home when Brandy said, “Let’s drive to Taos.”

So we drove to Taos.

From where we were, it was a little over 2 hours up to Taos. Before we got on the road though, I was in the mood for a Blake’s Lotaburger breakfast burrito. We made a quick detour to the location on 4th and El Pueblo then started the journey.

We arrived in Taos at around 1:00 pm. We drove straight to Taos Plaza in the heart of the Historic Downtown District. Reminiscent of Old Town Albuquerque or Santa Fe Plaza, Taos Plaza is a square surrounded by shopping and dining. We parked and strolled through a few of the shops, picking up bric-a-brac and garments along the way.

After taking a few pictures, we’d had our fill of Taos Plaza so we headed northwest to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. Brandy had driven over it once before so she didn’t have the desire to walk with me to the middle of the bridge and take in the spectacular view of the 800 foot deep chasm through which the Rio Grande flows. It was a magnificent view (as evidenced by some of the pictures I posted in my Photo Diary) but apparently, it pales in comparison to the Royal Gorge in southern Colorado, which will be a stop on our trip this upcoming Labor Day weekend.

After my photo session, we headed back out of Taos and back home, stopping for Sadie’s to go for dinner.

As usual, make sure you stop by the Taos, NM entry in my Photo Diary for some pictures and stay tuned for my post on our trip to Estes Park.

I leave you with the words of English author Simon Raven who said, “Life is short and the world is wide.”

I’m working on it Simon. I’m working on it…
