Brandy and I drove back up to the Cedro Creek Nature Trail for a Sunday hike.
As we had done this trail already in the past, we went straight to the trailhead, instead of wandering for 20 minutes looking for it.
Having learned my lesson from Saturday, I wore a pair of shorts and a light colored t-shirt for this hike. I knew it was going to be 80 degrees or so. I skipped the backpack this time too and hand-carried my water bottle. I wound up carrying Brandy’s bottle too as it didn’t fit in the carabiner clip she had on her backpack.
Much of the snow and ice we encountered the first time around had melted. I worried that was going to make for very muddy conditions, but it wasn’t too bad – not to the point where we slipped and slid everywhere. The moisture had allowed the growth of moss on a stone that we happened across. We don’t see a lot of moss in the desert so I found it fascinating.

We made it much farther up the trail this time around, to where some consider the end of the trail, which amounts to about 3/4 of a mile.

We reached that point and were greeted with a sheer wall of rock with some outcroppings making what would be wonderful shelter for a picnic spot if we were so inclined. There was snow melting here and dropping water into the creek bed. I discovered a small pool of standing water and was astounded with how clear it was.
Alltrails has the trail continuing on for another third of a mile or so, but we decided to call it good. We did not encounter a single soul on the out trip so it was peaceful and quiet. Just what the doctor ordered. As we headed back though, we came across a bunch of people. One family was toting a wagon with a couple of coolers in it. Brandy and I both wondered how they got through the trail to the point where we encountered them, and how they’d get past some of the obstacles they were about to encounter.
As we approached the trailhead, we happened upon a trio of mountain bicyclists, checking GPS coordinates and what-not. We passed them, then they followed us down toward the trailhead, zipping past us when they reached us.
Again, it was warm and sunny, no real clouds, so the numerous shady spots along the trail were welcome relief from the sun, and I was dressed much more appropriately so was much more comfortable on the hike than I was Saturday.
We would like to do this trail again and keep doing it until it isn’t hard any more, then find the next one to challenge us, whether by distance, elevation gain, or a combination of both.
In the meantime, here are a couple pictures I snapped on this go-round at Cedro Creek Nature Trail.
