Scott’s Family Restaurant, Cedar Rapids

October 10, 2022

In an effort to post more about my food exploration, I’m writing today about my experience at Scott’s Family Restaurant in Cedar Rapids.

Scott’s, located on Blair’s Ferry Rd in Cedar Rapids, is a locally owned and operated establishment. Open 6 am to 3 pm every day except major holidays, they offer standard diner fare, including breakfast all day.

I had some time to kill between doctor appointments so I asked the receptionist at my dermatologist where there was a good place for breakfast nearby. She suggested Scott’s so I made the quick, 5 minute drive and arrived just before 9:00.

The parking lot was quite full, which, at 9:00 on a Monday, was a good sign.

I walked in and was greeted by Karen who was a little uncertain as to where she should seat me. She settled on a two top in the corner. Perfect for me. She took my drink order, coffee with cream, and told me Jess would be right with me.

Jess is also managing a table of 15 so it was understandable that it took a while for her to take my order. By the time she did though, I had decided – French Toast N More: two slices of French toast, two eggs (scrambled), hash browns and either two slices of bacon or two sausage links (I opted for one of each.)

The coffee was brought in an old school plastic carafe and I was given a bowl of individual pots of cream.

The coffee was typical cafe coffee. The food came SUPER quick on two plates.

The French toast was good, the breads crust was nice and soft. Often, if the wring bread is used, the crust can be tough and hard to cut through. This crust was very easy to get through.

The bacon wasn’t crispy, and all of the food was a little on the tepid side. Not hot by any means, but not quite cold.

Overall, it was fine for a $15 quick stop breakfast between doctor appointments.

Would I come back? Eh, maybe, if I was in the area and hungry. I wouldn’t make a special trip to go though.

Ah, well, can’t win ’em all.
