Optimistic Observations: I Felt AWFUL

Today is Saturday, March 29, 2025 and I was on death’s doorstep last night.

About midway through the day yesterday, I started getting way more tired than I usually do by that point of the day. I thought it was just tiredness from having such a restless night’s sleep the night before, but it got worse as the day progressed.

Brandy said she wanted to drink so I obliged and went and got supplies, got back, made myself a drink and went outside for a smoke. Things just kept getting worse and worse.

I got through one drink and a couple of cigs then came in and was about on death’s doorstep. I was nauseous, exhausted and felt like I had the flu. I don’t know what caused it but it got so bad that I hit the sack way earlier than I wanted to on a Friday night. I was in such bad shape, I didn’t even take a sleep gummy. That would come back to bite me.

I woke up at about 1:00 am. It was too early to make an assessment on my condition so I laid there trying to get back to sleep. I knew it was not to be though, so I doom-scrolled for a bit then decided to get up at 3:00. By that time, I realized I felt a little better and would likely be OK for the day (not great, but OK) and now, as I sit here at almost 3:40 am, I feel fine. Tired (and that’s just going to get worse) but fine.

None of this sounds very “optimistic”, does it? Well, from my perspective, I can say I’m thankful that whatever hit me last night didn’t stick around very long. Was it the cigarettes I smoked? Was it something I ate? Was it just exhaustion? Who knows, but I feel like a nap today and I’ll be back to (as) normal (as I can be) tomorrow.

In other news, we’re set for our goose neck hitch installation (for $1,200…) on Tuesday morning. I was planning on picking up the trailer next Saturday but when I called the guy we bought it from, he said he was going to be out of town starting on Thursday. Other arrangements have to be made- I may just have to take the day off Tuesday and pick it up after the hitch installation.

In the baseball world, I did watch a little bit of the game last night, falling asleep with the Dodgers down 2-0 in the third. I didn’t think they would be shut out and, sure enough, when I woke up, I checked the score and found they’d won, 8-5 in 10 innings, on a Mookie Betts 3-run walk-off home run which came after he’d given LA a 3-2 lead in the 8th. I sense some magic this year, for sure.

And last, but certainly not least, I bought tickets for the Dodger game on June 27 to take on the Royals in Kansas City. This will boost the number of MLB stadiums I’ve visited to seven (the previous six being Dodger Stadium (of course), Angel Stadium, Jack Murphy Stadium (the Padres old stadium that they shared with the Chargers), Petco Park (the Padres’ replacement park), Coors Field in Denver, and, Wrigley Field.) I am super excited to check this park off the list, and am now aiming to get in at least one trip to Des Moines for an Iowa Cubs game this season.

It’s going to be a great season.

I did make it back to bed at about 5:00 this morning and got a couple more hours of sleep. I picked up baseboard from Menard’s then got a very early lunch from Culver’s, and I knew then it was going to be a great day.

Brandy and I ate together and watched The Righteous Gemstones, then I got to work in the basement, getting pretty much all the baseboard down, then I moved a good chunk of the furniture moved back in, and finally got a handful of boxes unpacked, two-plus years after moving in. My bookshelf looks GREAT!

It’s later in the day, about 7:00 now, and woke up from the most wonderful nap. After I was done in the basement, I took two 5mg gummies and sat down to watch some baseball. Brandy had left the front door open and there was a wonderful breeze rolling through the house. I fell asleep, only slept for maybe thirty minutes but I woke up in the most magnificent mood. Taking a weed nap in perfect temps with baseball as the perfect background noise, why wouldn’t I?

We had a quick dinner of formerly-frozen beer battered fish, coconut shrimp and sweet potato fries and Brandy is ordering brownies and ice cream as we speak.

It doesn’t get much better than this.

Lat update, I swear.

I just got done eating a MASS of sweets. Brandy said she was ordering brownies, she ordered brownies, ice cream, cookies, and cupcakes, under the assumption that only one would be available. Well, they were all available so I had one of each while watching the Dodgers pre-game show…

Yeah, it did get better than that.
