Optimistic Observations: A Pot of Coffee

Today is Monday, March 31, 2025, and sometimes, all it takes is a simple pot of coffee…

Every once in a while, something will trigger a core memory from “the before times” (which is what I will move forward with the describe my life before Brandy) and it will spark a flood of serotonin. Today, it was making a pot of coffee.

See, in the before times, I was a pretty simple guy. I’d make a pot of coffee using a drip coffee pot, usually Black & Decker, for some reason, and was typically happy with that. When I met Brandy, she had one of those highfalutin Keurig coffee makers. I’d always resisted the urge to get one, 1) because they were pricey, and 2) my sister from SoCal had nothing but trouble with hers. Plus, the evidence of planned obsolescence was a real turnoff for me too.

Anyway, I eventually fell in love with the convenience of popping a pod into the machine and letting it brew a cuppa for me in the mornings.

Then, Christy came along.

See, Christy was a connoisseur of coffee and used a French press (ooh, la-la!) She made me coffee one time using a French press and I was immediately converted. The drink resulting from a French press brew was worlds apart from the product spit from the Keurig. I took the plunge and got myself an electric kettle and a French press of my own and have never looked back.

This morning, as I was getting my coffee together, for some reason, I got focused on the evolution of my coffee game which is just another benchmark by which I can gauge the rest of my life – I went from a basic counter-top coffee pot to a Keurig to a French press. I’ve made so much progress in my life, and my coffee is just another indicator of as much.

In Other News

I have a handful of items on my to-do list today, not the least of which is to switch our insurance from Farmers to Progressive, call the local RV storage place to reserve a spot for the incoming fifth wheel, discuss swapping my flex day to tomorrow so I can go to Pella to get the hitch installed, then to pick up the trailer after, and finally, check my schedule to make sure Ash and I can join Brandy for a couple-week trip to South Carolina for her to be onsite at her newest property in April.

For a low-key Spring, we’re already piling on the trips. More about that coming up on the main feed…

I finally got a reasonable amount of sleep. I was already high when I went to bed, then I took a Stay Asleep gummy on top of that. I did wake up a little earlier than I would have liked, seeing as how I really shouldn’t log in until 9:00, but I suppose getting up at my regular time and getting me ready for the rest of my week on the other side of my flex day is a good idea.

I think this is sufficient for a hidden post; I’m going to move over and make a post on the main feed now…

Late Addendum

It’s 9:00 pm now. I took a gummy right after I logged off from work and I’m in the process of peaking now and I just finished a wonderful chai latte while watching Monk. I’m on cloud nine.

I was remarkably productive with not-work-related stuff on top of watching the queue for tickets coming in.

I talked to the guy that runs a nearby RV storage place to begin the process of securing a spot there.

I switched our insurance over to Progressive after my agent at Farmers didn’t want to help us any more.

I made arrangements with work to take the day off tomorrow so I can go pick up our RV.

And the potential trip to South Carolina that was initially slated for mid-April has now been bumped up to this weekend. I have some work to do to get ready for this ultra-spur-of-the-moment trip. I am looking at trails to hike and South Carolina barbecue to enjoy while we’re there… Oh, and I have to pack too…
