I’m not a hiker. I never have been. Never been a runner either. Hell, I’ve hardly been a walker in my life. Closest I’ve gotten to any regular outdoor activity was before I got my drivers’ license when I had a bike that I rode everywhere. As soon as I got a car though, phew, forget it!
Well, as my travels have increased, so has my desire to start hiking. Since I started this blog, I’d planned on hiking once I was able to start traveling. Not long after I started though, the coronavirus pandemic struck, I met Brandy, and hiking really hasn’t been in the picture.
The draw of hiking the Appalachian Trail is loud. I know that’s a wholly unattainable goal, but even a shorter, three day backpacking excursion would likely scratch the itch. But I can’t do that when I lose my breath walking to my car after work.
NO MORE, I say!
As of December 2020, I commit to starting a hiking training regimen that will get me in the condition I need to be in to be able to make lengthy, high altitude hikes. Course, I’m going to start slow: short trails, lower elevation, minimal elevation gains, but I want to eventually get to the point where I can make trips to Sandia Peak and hike the longer trails up there.
And then, ultimately, start taking hikes in the higher elevations of Colorado.
But, let’s start simple. Saturday, December 5, I will be hiking the Copper Trailhead Loop, just off of the intersection of Tramway and Copper in the very eastern part of Albuquerque. Brandy says she’d like to join me; let’s see if she actually does.
I hope to make a blog post detailing the hike shortly afterward, but we will see. In the meantime, I plan on updating this page with hikes that I am planning, and updating once they are completed.
See you on the 6th? 🙂
