Today is Thursday, May 30. Tomorrow morning, we leave for the first leg of our massive road trip. First stop, Gunnison, CO.
With baseball season in full swing (pun intended), I’m in full summer-time mode now. Watching baseball movies serves to propel me through the season.

Every day, I wake up grateful for what I have in my life. I have an amazing wife, I have a terrific job that allows me to work from wherever I am, I have a great house (with issues, sure, but we love it the same) and so much more to be thankful for.
As we prepare for the most grueling four months I’m sure I will ever experience, I can’t help but wonder how in the hell I got so lucky as to have the opportunity to do it.
March 22 – 25
As I mentioned in my post announcing our new ride, Brandy just got back from a week in South Carolina visiting her property in Florence.
She got back to Des Moines Friday, the 22nd, and had to fly back out to San Diego on Monday, the 25th. There’s no reason to have driven an hour and a half to the airport to pick her up, an hour and a half back, then do it again three days later.
Instead, we rented an AirBnB in Des Moines.
We came home to Coralville with Suzie Q, our 2018 Ford Edge Titanium, on March 28, 2022 after trading in Roxy, the Lexus RX350 Brandy had when I met her.
While Suzie Q was a go-getter, and she made it through many, MANY trips with us, we’ve come to realize we’d outgrown her.

As I mentioned in the first post on this trip, it was such a jam-packed getaway, I couldn’t contain it all in one post. In fact, the first week of our trip took SEVEN posts to adequately cover all the adenvtures we went on!
The second week, however, wasn’t so busy.

For Sue’s birthday, Brandy and I decided to get her and Craig tickets to the Iowa Hawkeyes Men’s basketball game in Iowa City where they were to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini. This was my first time ever going to a college sportintg event, and my first time at a basketball game at any level.
This was another one of those trips where we did so much, I’ll have to break it into many more easily digestible posts.
This post, I will be talking about our departure and our visit to Canon City and will lead us up to the end of week number one when we depart for Crested Butte.

With a little time to kill before our 3:00 check-in at our AirBnB, we decided to make a short detour and drove Skyline Drive, a thrilling 3 mile drive up and over a hogback on the west side of Canon City.
