2023 Year in Review
Full of extreme highs and equally extreme lows, I can honestly and truly say that 2023 was unlike any year I’ve had in my life.
Travels with Charley In Search of America by John Steinbeck
I find myself drawn to stories of exploration and adventure. Movies such as Wild and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty have always drawn me in. I live vicariously through these characters as they seek and find the catharsis they need, whether from bad relationships, deaths of loved ones, or just from a boring life.
One area that I would like to dive deeper into is to read more stories like this.
Enter John Steinbeck.

Blue October at Vibrant Music Hall

In the Summer of 2023, Blue October announced the dates for their Spinning the Truth Around Part II fall tour. The closest they got to us on this leg would be on November 29 at the Vibrant Music Hall in Waukee, just outside of West Des Moines.
So we went.

I seldom do posts about food or restaurants any more, but Brandy and I went to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse for an anniversary dinner on Saturday and I was moved to write this up.

Historic Hills Scenic Byway

After my accident, I was largely homebound, not leaving except for doctor visits, the surgery on October 18, and not much else.
Brandy decided to take me for a nice breakout day on October 29 for a drive up the Historic Hills Scenic Byway in southern Iowa.
