Optimistic Observations: Opening Day

Today is Thursday, March 27, 2025

After a week and a half or so of the blog being down, I finally got the help I needed from GoDaddy to get it back up and running right. Now that I have, I can resume my regular Optimistic Observations.

Today is going to be a good day on two fronts.

First, after being gone since Monday, Brandy comes home. Her flight lands at 1:40 and we figured by the time she lands, taxis, disembarks, gets to the car, stops for gas and makes it home, it’ll likely be around 4:00 or so. I do have a few items on my to-do list for when she gets here- I will take care of those on my “lunch break”.

Second, today is the league-wide opening day for MLB. The Dodgers already played a couple of games that count against the Cubs in Japan earlier in the month (and won both of them) but today will be the first time I will be able to watch a regular season game, though I don’t know if the Dodger game will be available to me, as the game will be on ESPN. The perils of cord-cutting… I might sign up for Sling or something for the season so I can at least get some of the national broadcasts.

I am on primary call this week, boo, but that just gives me opportunity to get some work done in the basement, since I can’t go anywhere (far) and do anything. Being stuck at home for the weekend will make for a productive one, for sure.

First part of the flooring is down in the basement. I still have some trimming to do in the doorways into my office and the laundry room but aside from that, it looks pretty damned snazzy and I can’t wait to button it all up and get to livin’ down there.

And the psychotic episodes of weather in Iowa continue. After a week of temps not even breaking into the 60s, tomorrow it’s supposed to be 80° and windy, after a day of thunderstorms today, then back down to under 50° by Sunday… get your shit together, Iowa.
