Well, I kinda did this one.
I looked for a new, easy trail nearby that I could try this past weekend. I found the Indian School Rocks trail, described on AllTrails.com as an easy 2.2 mile loop with a 387 foot elevation gain. A bit steep for me, but I figured I’d give it a try.
Brandy was spending the day in bed Saturday, so I decided to take Ash with me instead.
I wore jeans, a t-shirt and carried my backpack with water for me, and water, food and bowls for Ash. I almost instantly regretted wearing jeans. It was very hot on Saturday. I really need to get a pair of lightweight hiking pants for days like Saturday.
We arrived at the trailhead at around 10:00 am and started up the trail. It was a pretty steep incline for me right from the get go, making several stops along the way. About 20 minutes in we got to a point where I lost the trail. Tried as I might, I simply could not find the trail that was outlined on the app.
Since it’s a loop trail, I decided to cut through to the downward path and go from there, but there didn’t seem to be a trail there either. We wandered about for a bit before I decided to just head back down to the car and call it a short hike. Ash was getting pooped anyway, even with the water I had given him throughout the hike.
All told, we hiked for about 45 minutes or so. When we got back to the car, I filled a water bowl for Ash. He surprisingly only drank about half. He really wanted to get into the car and lay down for the ride home.
Truth be told, it’s a kind of boring trail. It’s very wide, not a lot of good scenery, and you walk past a HUGE water tank on the side of the mountain. Not very picturesque. I probably won’t do any more hikes in that area again. I think I’ll head east into Tijeras for a hike through the Sandias, Manzanos or Manzanitos instead.
Anyway, here are some pictures I took along the way, and I’ll soon be posting about the hike Brandy and I did the very next day.
